Just as a sidenote: I've got a group set up for the very secret
International Artgirl Letterboxing Cabal, where we discuss things like
stamp carving, handmade logs, and tres facionnable hiking clothes.
(Heehee...sounds like a combination of "Glamour" magazine and Martha
Stewart Goes Letterboxing, doesn't it? It's really not that vapid,
promise.)
Since this list (lbna) is mostly functional, this other list was set up
to talk about fun stuff related to letterboxing without cluttering up
this list with our art-girl banter. It's open to anyone, worldwide, and
I don't have a site for it yet. We do have our own logo stamp that you
can carve, pins (soon), and we're working on some series boxes that
won't be publicized elsewhere. Just fun stuff.
It is not, in any way, "official", if there even IS such a thing.
If you're interested in joining said secret society (ahem), just go here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ialc-list/
or send a blank email to:
ialc-list-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
We now return you to your regularly-scheduled letterbox clues
discussions. :)

Eliza,
Why not contribute your log-making stamp carving and fashion
skills to this site? Several of us got into boxing through an
interest in carving, not hiking. We can certainly benefit from
diversification.

I gotta add my two cents in here. And, I don't wish to come off being
negative to new ideas etc, but my first impressions of the "artgirls and
letterboxing" talk list idea were:
1) Gee, don't the boys want to have art talk too? Why would just us girls
want to have all the fun? Why would I want to be on a talk list which seems
exclusionary to half the letterboxing population?
2) I don't want to have people stop posting things about their stamps and
notebooks and such to THIS sight just because someone decided that "poof" its
not appropriate here. I LIKE talking about the fun stuff related to
letterboxing and assume that its SUPPOSED to be posted here.
Now, these are just my impressions and good luck on your talk list. I could
have just kept my two cents to myself, and maybe I should have. I'll miss
hearing y'alls good insights into how to make the perfect low-cost log book
and such. You sure you can't just leave all those postings here?
Just my thoughts on it.

Of course, no offense was meant. It's merely that a group of us here in
Seattle got together initially (we're all female and all friends through
an art -group-, thus, "artgirls"), and it's just evolved. It's no
different than regional groups getting together and having their own
lists or their own websites.
Plus, you'll note in my original posting that anyone's welcome to join,
gender irrelevent. It just started that way, we have a logo, and
*shrug*, no biggie.
About it not being appropriate here, I'm sure that it isn't expressly
forbidden or anything, but I did get the feeling, when anything is
posted other than clues/gatherings info/functional postings, that there
are a lot more of the people on this list who prefer the hike to the
stamp, which is FINE and there is NOTHING wrong with, of course, it's
just a different focus. And rather than bore the heck out of those
people who would prefer this to be a more functional list, or just sit
around and complain privately, we made our own space.
People are free to join if that suits them, if it's not their thing,
that's fine too -- we're all letterboxers. :)

I don't think Eliza said it was ONLY for women, though it is implied in the name. I suspect that even it if is, like-minded men would probably be welcome. However, I don't personally know very many men who would want to spend an entire day chatting about peanut butter ice cream and how to get it to the top of a mountain without it melting. Also, I doubt that this list wants to delete 20 messages devoted to that topic.

No one said they'd stop talking about stamps, notebooks, etc. on this list. I have seen lots of posts regarding other things here, and I don't think there actually many rules about what can or cannot be discussed here. But I do not think I'd ask people on the letterboxing list for help with the peanut butter ice cream issue, or about whether REI sells purple wool socks. Those two things are not exactly letterboxing-related, and so I would figure they were not appropriate for this list. If I wanted to know about how to make my own logbook, this is one of the first places I would ask, though. Letterboxers tend to be very artsy, and very creative. (:

Gee, I don't know- I see that Leger de Maine has
already signed up as a member...LOL I don't know,
maybe he just wants to get in touch with that feminine
side, who knows? Or maybe he really wants to know
where to buy those purple socks.
teasing! really!>
I think there's room for more than one letterboxing
list. I can see the point in the second list--ice
cream on the trail just isn't a topic I've seen
brought up here yet. ;o) However, if you'd like to
know my solution for the urge for ice cream on the
trail, I'd be happy to share, it's really not a
secret. :o)

What makes you presume that I'm a man, or that I don't wear purple
socks?

LOL, I guess I just assume since it says you are male

And how many boxers are going to carve a purple sock stamp soon? I am
and you'll find them along with my other stamp ins (when I ever get
out boxing again.)
I propose we post our purple sock images as an exchange right on the
list and be da**** to the functional aspects for a change.
Look for my sock soon!
